Trail is mostly clear with some sections of mud, water and snow.

Majority of the trail was ice/packed snow in the trees with the open areas having deeper snow on a packed trail. Snowshoes not needed but cleats recommended.

Coburn trail this past Saturday with these lovelies

Description:

An 8 km trail with a great variety – tall timber, good slopes (some very steep!) and a ride way above the Fraser River at Red Rock, a community just 20 minutes south of Prince George.

This trail has many options to explore and can be an Easy, shorter 8 km loop with a few steep sections, but 95% flat, or a longer Medium loop that follows the Fraser River longer and provides an 11.5 km loop. Animal tracks are abundant with a lot of tall Douglas Firs.

The section of the trail that follows closely above the river is actually where the paddle boat passengers walked when the river boats had to be pulled up through the rapids in the canyon. The wild animals probably made the original trail and still follow it. There are a few holes where prospectors reportedly dug in gravel pockets. This information was told to a local person’s grandfather by settlers who lived close to the river before there was a hwy and they traveled on the river.
