Hudson Bay Mountain and Crater Lake in Smithers, BC | Northern BC hiking
Comment 0

This hike is located in Smithers, BC (a 4-hour drive west from Prince George, BC), and due to poor weather around Prince George BC’s hiking areas, Trekking with Taz and I decided to try our first hike in the Smithers, BC area as the weather forecast looked positive in that area. We hiked up to Crater Lake and then onwards to the Hudson Bay Mountain summit, one of the sketchiest summits I’ve ever done. There appears to be no water after you ascend from Crater Lake and the climb is moderate but not too strenuous for experienced hikers. Once you approach the first ridge and view of the city of Smithers, the climb to the summit becomes gradually steeper, narrow, and dangerous, especially the last 50-100 meters where I found that I had to leave my trekking poles behind as I needed both hands to navigate the steep/narrow boulders to the summit logbook (see here: https://youtu.be/BkZaBxzwX88?t=622). I did have a cell signal during this hike.
