The Red Mountain Trail can be accessed from two locations.
1. The longer 12.5 km one-way trail begins at the community of Penny BC
2. The shorter 8.5 km on-way trail begins on Fraser Flats Forest Service Road at around 14.5 km where the Red Mt Trail crosses over Fraser Flats and a parking area exists on the south side of the road where the south side of the trail emerges from the forest. A Trail Crossing sign (500 meters before) warns the driver on the south side of the road about the upcoming trail crossing.
This hike/snowshoe is a moderate to strenuous challenge depending mostly on the distance you travel as the trail itself is in excellent condition and is wide enough to drive a quad to the cabin (although motorized vehicles are not allowed). There are very large cedar trees in the lower parts of this trail that rival those in the Ancient Forest Park to the south. The views become spectacular as you gain elevation you will see the valley to the south and mountains south of hwy 16 as well as ridges to the north and east.
There is a cabin that may be rented at the end of this trail and is a popular skier’s destination.

Thanks for posting the video on the Red Mountain snowshoe trip as it brings back a flood of memories from days past when my gang in the Pathfinders Outdoor Club would leave Vancouver on weekends and head to the outback to Snowshoe or XC ski (Whistler, Manning, Cariboo.) Spending time in Nature is the best remedy for what ails a person in these difficult times.
