Trail History of Eagle Valley Trail in McBride, BC

As demand grew for the use of Ozalenka Cabin, Glen Stanley and his friends realized they needed to find another place for a cabin for people to enjoy the beautiful Dore River area. Originally, they thought about building at Kristi Glacier, but eventually, on a trip with another friend to the Eagle Valley Glacier, standing below Eagle Peak on their skis, they decided this was a fabulous place to build a cabin.

This led to the creation of a trail to the Eagle Valley area, and Glen received the contract to build the trail and handle the paperwork. Glen paid everyone the same amount for their work on the trail.

Around the year 1984, the Eagle Valley trail was built, and next came the cabin. Rudy and Patricia Thoni raised the money in Jasper, AB, and supplied cooking equipment. Forestry Rap Attack did the helicopter transport.

The name Eagle Valley came from a trip where they moved out onto a morraine, and the cook who was with them saw a black bear on the other side of the creek. Suddenly, a large golden eagle flew down the valley right past them, so they named it ‘Eagle Valley’ after discussing it with Dave and others in the group.
