T&T Adventures has completed the 7 summits of Northern BC challenge by summiting Erg Mountain.
Hike 1: Raven Lake (here)
Hike 2: Vineyards (here)
Hike 3: Viking Ridge (here)
Hike 4 and 5: Fang and Torpy (here and here)
Hike 6: Baldy Mt (here)
Hike 7: Erg Mountain (here)
This hike presents many challenges including the drive to the trailhead which required us to cross through a very deep beaver pond:
Once we made it to the parking area near the Ptarmigan Creek, the next challenge was to cross the creek itself. This creek can be trecherous depending on the time of year and the weather conditions and we knew this day would be hot as the forecast was set to exceed 30 celsius. We crossed the creek (I had to cross multiple times to convince adventure dog to join us) and we proceeded to remove our water crossing shoes and put on our hiking shoes.
For the next several hours we made out way through hot temperatures exceeding 30C and climbing Erg’s infamous slopes until we finally made out way through the meadows. As we arrived on the first ridgeline near Mary Harper Ridge a lightning storm blew into the area briefly and we watched as 4 fires started on the mountainside in Ptarmigan Creek Provincial Park. After spending an hour reporting the fire to BC Wildfire Service (luckily we had cell service at this exact moment) we continued toward the summit.
Finally we climbed the last part of Erg (which I call the dragonhead) and summited our final summit of the 7 summits of Northern BC!
