Trail History of Donkey Trail to Lemoray Lakes in Lemoray Provincial Park
Comment 0

The original ‘Donkey Trail’, as shown in the BC Backroads mapbook, shows this old outfitter’s trail starting along the train tracks north of the Mountain Creek train bridge and leading up into beautiful alpine meadows.

This trail has been around and in use since at least before 1979, when Otto Eldon was the outfitter managing the trail and area in his guide outfitting business. Otto has operated his guiding business since the early 1950’s in the region through the Pine Pass, both the north and the south, and all the way down to the Sukunka, or even south of there. The lake north east of the Lemoray lakes area is called Otto Lake, named after Otto Eldon by the Land Use group in the early 1990’s (Wayne Sawchuck was president in those days).

In 2025, T&T Adventures cut open the bottom few kilometers (outside of BC Parks) in order to reopen the trail and spent several days backpacking to the lakes and mountain summits above.
